Healing Benefits of Honey for your Skin

Raw honey has been used for many purposes throughout the ages, but it's use as a natural facial is one of its oldest uses. Modernization brought with it the infusion of chemically engineered moisturizers,  preservatives, and antibacterial agents for the treatment of our skin, however the trend is fortunately returning to natural remedies for skin ailments and honey is in the forefront of this natural approach.   Honey facials are a wholistic and natural method of moisturizing your skin, which is what is necessary to maintain suppleness and elasticity. Due to age and environmental factors our skin loses it’s ability to retain moisture and becomes dry and wrinkled.  Honey is a natural moisturizer and facial treatment because it has the ability to attract and retain moisture while providing a gentle exfoliating treatment in addition.  Honey is found in the most popular skin care products for health and beauty, it is found in bath products, facial creams and lotions as well as in hair care products.  Honey is known to have natural antioxidant properties as well which play a part in protecting our skin from harmful ultra violet rays; antioxidants are also known to aid in skin rejuvenation.  Honey is also a non irritant so it is suitable for sensitive skin. Honey is now being “rediscovered” as a natural skin treatment and you will find it listed as one of the ingredients of many of the finest skin care products available today.  Honey is also known to help in treating skin infections.  Dr. Peter Molan Prof. of Biochemistry at Waikato Univ. New Zealand indicates that honey has effective antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties. In fact a case study conducted in Britain found honey to be the only successful treatment for a recurring episode of Pseudomonas and Staphlococcus aureus.  This case study used dressing pads impregnated with sterilized active manuka honey and showed a significant reduction of wound bacteria.  Moreover, according to Dr. Molan , “Randomized trials have shown that honey is more effective in controlling infection in burn wounds than silver sulphadiazine, the antibacterial ointment most widely used on burns in hospitals.” He adds, “ The remarkable ability of honey to reduce inflammation and mop up free radicals should halt the progress of the skin damage like it does in burns, as well as protecting from infection setting in. “

As research points to Honey as a skin healer more and more people will turn to it for skin care purposes. Honey has profound benefits if taken internally, these same remarkable agents are now being used in the care of your skin.  Using raw and unfiltered honey guarantees that all the natural elements God placed in honey will not be removed through heating or filtereing.  Try our honey in any of these skin care recipes and see for yourself what honey can do for your skin.
